Trade-Offs

Due to freezing rain and icy streets and sidewalks, this past week and most of the next week aren’t conducive to outdoor walks.

We’re very fortunate to have an excellent sports facility nearby that features an indoor track.

Despite it being nearby, I’m driving over there to do my daily power walking.

My feature photo is the view of the Legacy Park paths from the second floor walking track windows.

I did some editing to clean up the photo and add a touch of drama to the overcast sky.

Here’s the original:

The paths are more apparent in the original and it also gives a better sense of the height it was shot from.

Sometimes there are trade-offs in post processing, just as there are tradeoffs for walking indoors vs out.

The trade-offs are both positive and negative. I prefer to focus on the positives

Safety first! It’s better to walk indoors than to walk outside and risk falling on an ice patch. I have seen that happen to one of our neighbors. A lot of people in my area drive to the mall and walk inside. I think it’s a good idea because you can see people, and after the walk you can get something to drink or eat, and maybe buy something in one of the stores.

Until we got this indoor track, there were quite a few who walked at our mall too, Edward. You’re right – it’s always better to be safe when it’s icy outside. Thank goodness those days look like they’re gone now for another year.

Your town sure has a lot of good things. Nice there is the indoor track you can use during cold weather. Do you have any lingering problems from when you were hit by that car a while ago?

We’re very lucky for a small prairie city, Charla. I still have zero sense of smell, and that may be permanent damage. Aside from that, I’m doing pretty good.

Thank you for telling me. I know smell can affect how food tastes. I am holding out hope that some of your sense will come back.

Thank you and yes, we’re very fortunate that not only do we have this facility but it’s also so close by.

I can’t wait to see photos of your parks in the summertime. I have been doing my aerobics Monday thru Saturdays but haven’t walked lately, even on the treadmill.

I’m so happy to see your reply, Anne! I hadn’t seen a post from you or any comments for a while, so hoped you were OK. Good for you for that aerobics commitment!

I like the edited version! There are always positives and negatives. We choose the side that is best, and like you said, focus on the positives. Soon you’ll be back out on the wonderful trails, and you will have maintained (or improved) your fitness by walking inside. Have a great day, Terry!

Oh Bother! Now you motivated me to go get some Sunday steps in! Generally, I prefer not to sweatβ€”I just glisten emotionally while thinking about maybe exercising tomorrow.
