Ho-Ho-Ho

We’re enjoying a new route south this year.

Our bucket list hit yesterday was the town of Blue Earth, Minnesota – the home of Green Giant Vegetables.

We enjoyed visiting the giant statue of the Jolly Green Giant, as well as a visit to the museum on the same property, which told the history of this well known brand of canned and frozen vegetables.

Entertaining stops like this make long rides tolerable. Thanks for sharing what you encounter along the way.

You’re very welcome, Suzanne! On each trip to Texas and on each trip back home, we try to see at least one thing we’ve never seen before.

Oooh a blast from the past. I remember the Green Giant TV jingle as a kid in the 80s. I just looked up to see if UK still had it and here is one from a good while back. I doubt I can link it here but you could search for the You Tube video “Green Giant – Grow Up/You Are What You Eat (2005, UK”). Also we had Pillsbury Dough adverts where the little guy got poked in the tummy and giggled. Search this one: “Pillsbury – Doughboy’s Crescent Rolls and others (1970s, UK). Thanks for the nostalgia Terry. It looks such a fun shop!

I remember the Jolly Green Giant veg from the UK. It was associated with sweetcorn.

We also use the term Jolly Green Giant for another meaning. aka jealousy.

Pilsbury dough. Also remember that. If somone was fat people used to poke you in the stomach and call you Pillsbury.

I wonder if the company knows their product names were used in a degoratory way.

Love the history behind the products.

It’s too bad that things like this can get used in ways to hurt people. I’m sure that happened here as well, Carole. I was just never exposed to it.
