After enjoying our time in Hafford, SK we decided to make this day of our road trip all about small town stops.

About 23 minutes down the road was the town of Blaine Lake, SK. Alongside the highway, we saw a sign above a business that said, “Betty’s Diner, est 2021”. This drew our interest, because so many small businesses had closed during the Covid pandemic. Seldom had we heard of new businesses opening.

Inside was a 1950’s themed restaurant with decor and fun memorabilia from a kinder, gentler time.

I remembered these coke machines when they didn’t have no smoking decals and a coke was 5 cents – not 3 dollars!

There were fun dining booths reminiscent of our favourite restaurants from our childhood. Hubs and I were born in the early 50’s so this was truly a walk down memory lane.

The numerous windows made for great light to grab a few shots.

We had just enjoyed brunch in the car before arriving at Betty’s Diner, so we didn’t stay to eat. Despite this, it was a great stop and I wish the owners nothing but success.

“The fifties is a decade when every year is markedly different from the one before and after. That doesn’t happen every decade. 1983 isn’t that much different from 1986. But 1953 is very different from 1956.”
