I Won’t Ask

On a recent daybreak walk, I noticed that our city’s historical court house (built in 1928 and designated as a provincial heritage property) was nicely framed on two levels by the foreground trees.

There was no traffic at that time of day, so I felt safe to inch back and forth on the middle of the street, trying to get a balanced shot of the framing of both the main entrance with its front lawn fountain and the central cupola at the top.

Unfortunately, the unruly tree branches didn’t fully cooperate for the photo I saw in my mind’s eye, but this was the closest one of several attempts.

I wonder if the city maintenance crew would trim those branches on the left a bit for me.

It’s fun to imagine that I could be so influential for the sake of a photograph, but no, I won’t ask.

    Oh, wow. They should definitely trim those trees, not only because they’re blocking that beautiful building, but also to prevent accidents. I see an electrical line on the first light pole, so I’m assuming there’s a line running through the trees. Not sure how bad it gets during severe weather events, but broken branches blocking the street aren’t good either. Of course, your photo will be even better once you have a clear view of the building. 😉

      It’s a bit of an optical illusion, Edward. If I had walked more towards the courthouse, it would have been apparent what happened. The trees were nearer to me than the building. I think a combination of my short stature and the distance combined to create the effect. There’s a four lane street right in front of the courthouse and the trees are on this side of it. That said, I agree that the trees could still use a trimming.

    It wouldn’t be the same, but have you tried Magic Eraser to get ride of some of those branches? 🙂

      I decided not to, just for the sake of showing in the post that, in photography, sometimes things just don’t line up the way you want them to. 😊

    From this little peek through the trees, it looks to be a beautiful building! And also a beautiful time of day. I’m sure it was a lovely early morning walk. The best kind!

      It truly is a grand old building, Lenore. We live on the same street, just one block south of it, so I get to see it every day. The walk is generally always very nice at dawn – except for today. The rain was pouring down so hard that I didn’t venture out. That should make for a few nice puddle reflection shots tomorrow morning. Have a great day!
