    I’m certain you have seen the enormous amount of wind turbines in West Texas since you travel here often. They don’t produce enough energy to power a single home, so they are a government handout industry. Data Centers are the new evil here in Texas. If we have more computer power in our hand that the astronauts had to get to the moon and back, then we don’t need giant data centers. It’s all card tricks and magic acts. It’s more about land acquisition, annexation and tax money for the rural counties and small towns. There are eight of them planned for Granbury, and we are fighting like hell to keep them out. Erin Brockovich is now in the fight with us, but her style of warfare may be outdated.

      Yes, we’ve seen big wind farms in West Texas, and through the panhandle, and all through Oklahoma and North Dakota, Phil. We have some very big ones a few hundred miles west of here. We have a big ai data centre being developed just south of our province’s capital city (about an hour from here). As far as I know, there hasn’t been any kind of resistance to that. I hope Ms Brockovich can be of some assistance.

    I wasn’t sure what your sign meant, but I got an idea reading a few of the comments. Right now, we are in Michigan and not far from us there are many of these wind turbines.

      We see lots of them in various paces across Canada and the USA, Betty. I guess time will tell if we end up with some of the biggest ones here. I’m sure you’re loving every minute in Michigan. Enjoy the rest of your day!

    I was reading how they are turning the used blades of wind turbines into materials for bridges. I know that that’s one of the biggest concerns with wind is the unrecyclability of the composite material that the blades are made from. But I still think it’s much cleaner than burning coal. When I read your comment about the Hot Topic I thought maybe it was about the AI data center that I know is somewhere Southwest of Regina. I am not sure how far it is from Weyburn.

      I read things about those bridges too. The data centre isn’t as big of an issue here as the proposed turbines. We’re southeast (not southwest)
      of Regina, so maybe that’s why. We’ve seen those blades being hauled down the road via semis with two and sometimes three pilot trucks accompanying them. Between the fuel used just there, the fuel used in the production of the blades (not to mention the entire windmill), and the short lifespan with very little disposal forethought, many people wonder how “clean” wind energy is in the long run. I’m sure a lot of the opposition is because we’re in the oil patch. Oil production provides a lot more jobs, thus a bigger economy, than a wind turbine. I’m not saying which is the right way to go – just pointing out where much of the protest is likely coming from. I guess, as with all things, time will tell, Bernie. Have a great day!

        I should have actually said just south of Regina because I’m not really sure which direction they were talking about. And yes I’m sure being in the oil field area no one’s too keen on wind as it will affect the economy.

    That graphic is informational (at least I didn’t know there was that much difference). Don’t you wish we had a crystal ball and knew what would be best, in the long run, for our world?

      So true, Lenore. Apparently these proposed turbines for here will be substantially taller than regular ones, thus one of the issues – another is that the areas they’re supposed to be going to were not consulted ahead of time. I’m sure there are other things I’m not aware of because I tend to steer clear of political things. Have a great day!
