Thoughtful Tulips

On Wednesday this week, hubs and I hosted a dinner party for two couples in our park who we consider to be friends.

Sherry and Den are from Wisconsin and Sue and Pete from Minnesota. It was a bittersweet evening because Sherry and Den are moving to Italy soon. It’s always difficult to say goodbyes to friends, especially when you don’t know when or if you’ll ever see them again.

I decided to do a raclette meal, as it’s a fun way to dine and visit, while everyone prepares their preferred foods on the table top raclette grill.

I requested that our guests bring nothing besides their appetites because we had lots of everything.

Sherry did bring something … a beautiful bouquet of tulips. These have been my favourite flowers for a very long time because they’re the first sign of spring at home. Sherry had no way of knowing this, so that made the gesture all the more special.

Terry, just a follow up … I’m sticking this comment here on one of your older posts, and you can delete it. Just wanted to say I was going to nominate you for the Sunshine Blogger award… you’re always so kind to read and comment on my posts and I really enjoy reading about your travels and adventures with hubs. But I remembered a while back, you posted that you were concerned bc you realized how much private stuff you had been putting on your site and had decided to scale it back. So I didn’t want to put you on the spot with something that you weren’t really up for. Thanks again, I’m glad we’re friends on WP 😊

That’s very kind and considerate of you, Darryl, and so great that you recalled that detail from one of my older posts. I’m glad that we’re WP friends too and I didn’t give that Sunshine Blogger nomination (as far as my posts go) another thought. 😊

I have never read about that type of cooking. It reminds me of fondue dinners. You are so sweet to have that meal with your friends. I am sure they enjoyed the food and the visiting.

It’s very much a fun meal and provides excellent visiting time, Charla. We used to have fondue meals and this is similar except that nothing is cooked in oil and when melted, the raclette cheese has more of a stringy consistency (sort of like mozzarella) than that of cheese fondue.

What a fun meal and memorable send off for your friends. It’s so hard to say goodbye. Receiving tulips was amazing when she didn’t even know they were your favorites…🌷🌷🌷

Isn’t it a bit uncanny, Amanda … So many miles apart, yet so many similarities. BTW, I also love gardenias 😎

Looks like a great evening Terry. I have the song “Tulips from Amsterdam”by Max Bygraves in my mind now – do you know it? Maybe it never made fame in the US but over here it is very well known with people of a certain age.

I’m not familiar with that song, Lana. I do know “Tiptoe Through the Tulips” tho, 😂
