Vitality

vi·tal·i·ty

the state of being strong and active

Every morning on my walks here in our South Texas park, I pass this poinsettia plant.

Because it’s so full and lush and perfect, I wondered if it’s real.

A few days ago I checked and sure enough, it’s as real as you and I.

To see the bracts still as red at the end of February as they were at Christmas time made me think of the word vitality.

Wow, it is a great specimen. Minde usually die. Does it grow outside in sun or shade?

This one is on the west side of the home, so it would get the afternoon sun, which can be very hot here.

There are many growing outdoors here, Charla and this one is the best of all of them.

I love these plants but always dreaded it in the past when people would give them to me as Christmas gifts. They would always be dead not far into new year. Glad the one you met is still thriving!

Once in a while, I’d have a poinsettia at Christmas time as well, Lana. Back in Canada, they didn’t fare so well. Down here in South Texas, they do much better – most likely because they’re native to Mexico and we’re very close to the Mexican border. Many people here display their potted ones outdoors because the plants are well suited to the climate.

I can believe it. I recently watched the “Eva Longoria: Searching for Mexico” series featuring food and all the places looked so colourful and vibrant.

Many people here plant the potted ones they buy at Christmas time. Some do fairly well. This one is definitely faring the best, Lenore. Enjoy your day!
