Slick and Easy

Before Christmas, I asked my FaceBook friends and family if any of them had any experience with the Chef Preserve Vacuum Sealer.

I was looking to vacuum seal a good lot of Swiss Raclette cheese that would be left from our Christmas Eve meal. The cheese is dear in price, so I sure didn’t want to lose any of it to spoilage. Vacuum sealing was the number one suggestion.

A nurse friend of mine from at home in Canada was the first to reply with a detailed and thorough positive review. This gal is a great cook and a thrifty homemaker, and an honest, sincere person, so I trusted her opinion. I gave it a few more days and no one else replied with personal experience, but another nurse friend gave the system a very good review via her friend who uses it. She said she planned on buying this for herself. This is another gal whose opinions I trust.

Although I always check them, I’m never sure of online reviews by folks I don’t know.

I ordered the sealer, and immediately vacuum sealed and froze the leftover cheese.

Raclette cheese saved for next time

I was thrilled with how slick and easy it was to operate. I love that the unit is small and that the bags are reusable.

I hope this system brings you great pleasure Terry. Anyone wasting cheese should be jailed 🙂

Thanks, Lana and I know it will! And I agree about wasting cheese. Wasting any food gives me the heebie-jeebies because we’re so fortunate to have all that we have while so many don’t know when or even “if” their next meal will arrive.

Exactly! Franc and I are so thankful we can go to the supermarket and chose whatever we wish.

Interesting. I haven’t heard of that product. You’ll have to update us now and again on how you like it and use it. Also, how many times can you reuse the bags? How do you wash them? Sounds like a great idea.

I’ll definitely do an update down the road, Lenore. The bags are dishwasher safe and very sturdy so I’m sure they’ll have a long life. The tops of them have zip locks and the system comes with a little zipper sealing tool that’s easy to use and insures a solid seal before using the vacuum wand. Have a fab day!

I have a friend who catches lots of fish. This is the way he preserves them. So much better than just a regular freezer bag.

Great idea for fish or any meats. It apparently extends freezer times, and it definitely takes up less space. We always buy our bacon from Costco and it’s vacuum sealed. It works out great to freeze it. Now, I’ll be able to divide it into 2-serving portions and vacuum seal those before freezing. The more I think about vacuum sealing, the more I see endless possibilities. Enjoy your day, Suzanne!

Terry, I’ve never thought about vacuum sealing food before freezing. I’d be interested to know how you get on.

I’ll be sure to post after I’ve opened something I’ve done that way, Carole. We’ve bought many meats that are already vacuum sealed and frozen, so I see no worries in doing that myself. It also saves freezer space. Have a great day!

Terry, this is so funny… I got my wife Chef Preserve for Christmas. Her sister has it and loves it. It only came with bags, so we just ordered a few of the glass containers with lids that they also offer. Sue is so excited 😎🙂

Ok, Darryl that “is” funny. I also want the containers, but decided to try it with the bags first to be sure it worked. High five to Sue! 🖐️
