Sand Sculpture Paradise

Every year, before Christmas, we make the hour drive over to South Padre Island, TX to take in the new sand sculptures.

These amazing works of art are sculpted by sand artists from all over the world.

The only sculpture you’re allowed to touch is Santa’s chair, and I once again tried it out.

“I’ve been a very good girl, Santa!”

I’m also in awe of the talent. I think they said this year, that one of the sculptors was from Hong Kong. There are so many sand sculptors from all over the world who congregate at South Padre in early October for Sandcastle Days. We’re never down here early enough to watch the actual carvings being done … some day 🤞

These are absolutely stunning Terry, the best I have seen and I have spent many holidays in Spain where such works abound. Great one of you on the throne!

They amaze me every year, Lana. Unlike you, I’ve never been anywhere else to see sand carvings. It’s nice to hear from someone who has seen other works to compare them to. Thank you for your kind compliment on the last one.

How fun and what talent! I remember you posting about this before (maybe last year) and I remember thinking I’d love to attend some time. Is this only during December or are there sculptures year-round?

I post about this almost every year, Lenore. They have an event called Sand Castle Days in October of each year. We’ve never been here early enough to attend, but it would be great to watch them being carved. Sand Castle Village (the one under the tent) is there year round. Have a great day!

And the only ingredients are sand and water, Anne. I’m happy you enjoyed them and wish you a great weekend too!

The sand sculptures are amazing! The mermaid with the guitar must have been difficult to make. Love the Santa’s chair

The talent involved in making these blows me away. That mermaid is Taylor Swift, Carole.
