Easter Eggish

I’d often heard about the excellent meat offerings at the Ukrainian Co-op in our capital city, Regina, Saskatchewan.

When I Googled the address, the images that came up were all the incentive I needed to convince hubs to take me there to get some photos.

All sides of this building are covered with colourful and historical murals.

My feature photo shows where we parked our truck on arrival. We soon discovered that this was an exit, so we had to walk around to the opposite side to locate the entrance.

The walk was worth it.

If you’ve ever seen a hand painted Ukrainian easter egg, you’ll know how I chose the title for this post.

I’ve had some Ukrainian food. I had a lot to drink, likely vodka, so I can’t remember what it was, but it was darn good. Chickens the size of a Turkey? Sounds like the chicks got into the Russian nuclear wastewater like those Chihuahuas in the desert outside of Marfa, Texas. The building looks similar to some of the hippie head shops we had in Dallas back in the 60s, lots of flower power and such. Back then, you couldn’t walk ten feet on a downtown sidewalk without tripping over some hippie sitting on the sidewalk playing their guitar and begging for coins. Between them and the Hare Krishnas banging on tambourines and begging for cash, it was no fun getting around in Dallas, much less looking for Ukrainian fast food.

My guess would be that you had pierogies (dumplings with potato and cheese filling), cabbage rolls (stuffed cabbage leaves) or both. Those are the most commonly known ones. Have a great day, Phil!

May have been the stuffed cabbage. Whatever it was, it was complimented with Vodka and that’s what did me in. It was a restaurant in San Diego and I can’t remember the name, or maybe in was in Tajuana.

The eggs are pretty. The mural Is a bit too busy for me. I love the smell of that place. And their meat is amazing. I went there to buy a turkey one day. At first, I thought the chickens were turkeys – they were huge. The turkeys were massive and delicious. Have a great day, Terry!

They certainly have a large and varied selection of meat and other items. I like the mural a lot. Maybe, seeing as you think the eggs are pretty, the mural is just too much for you on such a grand scale. We’re all different in what we see and what we like when it comes to art and that’s a good thing. It would be a boring old life if we were all the same, wouldn’t it, Anne? Have a great day!

Wow! What a beautifully decorated building. My heart goes out to the Ukranian people. I am pleased to see many European leaders will be accompanying Zelenski today when he meets bully boy Trump Putin’s puppet.

I love the vision of the artist, Carole. When I read about him, the article said that when he was hired by the Ukrainian Coop, his intent was to incorporate a part of their culture into the murals, thus the idea of the Easter Egg style. Have a great day!
