Inexplicable

Yesterday, when I walked to my downtown physio appointment, I came across a new structure that has popped up right smack in front of a major bank. It’s around two vehicles in length and is quite narrow. There may be a plan for a little patio, but it’s at an intersection at what’s often a high traffic area, so it would be a less than pleasant place to stop for a coffee.

Why this was allowed in an area that already has limited parking and in a spot that should be designated as handicapped parking, is way beyond me.

I’m normally a person who is excited and positive about anything new in our little prairie city – this thing … not so much.

That’s town planners these days for you. No logic!

I agree. It’s curious. I was going to suggest a bike shelter/parking bay but they have enclosed it on four sides

There’s a gate next to the sidewalk, but I still don’t “get it”, Carole 🤷‍♀️

A very hipster wine bar, coffee bar, cigar bar, wi-fi bar, selfie-bar, influencer corral, tattoo bar or a hot dog stand, could be any of those. I don’t understand the attraction of sitting next to a curb with loud traffic and boom box music two feet from your head. In Texas, sitting outside to dine at any time is insane, maybe different in Canada.

Some places would definitely be more comfortable, Phil. There are a couple of restaurants away from the downtown area that have comfortable and quiet outdoor patios … and each one has a roof in case of rain, as well as glass walls to block the wind!! That also baffled me about this structure – no roof, no walls! 🤷‍♀️

It will be interesting to see what comes of it.

That it will, Betty. Interesting and very likely frustrating for those who can’t walk a long distance.

That is very strange for it to be in front of a bank and at an intersection. We have seen things like that pop up, I think around Florida. It makes the streets very narrow and limits parking. It will be interesting to see what happens next with that structure. Hum…

There’s an entire downtown “revitalization” in the works here, Charla. I stopped in at city hall yesterday to check out the diagrams. Although the plans look beautiful, they sure don’t take into account that this is a city with a large population of seniors and handicapped individuals. Sometimes, I wonder if elected officials for cities might be a bit too young to consider anyone who isn’t young and fit.

City officials need to take in all ages and issues, that is right. It will be neat to see the changes they make and I hope the turn out well for everyone.
