This July marked the 100th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Hubs and I are both associate members through Hubs’ dad, who was a pilot and served in active duty overseas during WWII.
Our local branch held a special day to mark the milestone.
Locals took one hour shifts (for a full 24 hours) standing as honour guards at the cenotaph.
Also, for the full 24 hours, there were activities and food available for all ages.
The Legion Branch in our community has been active and instrumental in not only honouring veterans, but contributing to the community. For many years, public swimming and skating for all children was paid for by our branch.
Sadly, over the years, as the older veterans have passed on, and there has been increasing difficulty recruiting new members, the branch has had to make some tough decisions regarding operating hours of the branch/lounge, and donations.
