I know I’m flitting back and forth between topics. That’s how life is these days, as we start winding down our winter and prepare to head home for the summer. There are so many things we need to do and still a few things we want to do, so it’s definitely a flitting about process. The lists are all made, and each day, things are added or deleted.
Back to the palm husks:
After washing the husks, I applied two base coats of white matte acrylic craft paint. I’ll paint some without base coating next winter. For now, this method serves my limited knowledge and skill level. I can lightly sketch out my ideas with a water-soluble graphite pencil, which is easy to see on the white.
I’m now in the process of deciding what I want to paint on them. Once I get started, I should be able to work on two at once, so I’m optimistic that I’ll have this batch complete before we leave.
Photo Note: The overhead LED lights in my shed workspace caused quite a color distortion, so I had to correct the white balance in the original photo. The lights are wonderful to work under – just not so great for photos.

I’m interested to see how these turn out. Have fun!
