Three days ago, our “new to us” golf cart was delivered. As I mentioned in a previous post, we’ve named him “Arnie” (for Arnold Palmer)

Neither of us golfs anymore. We both had to give it up years ago due to lower back injuries. The main purpose of purchasing this cart was for transportation around the park for hubs. He has a trick knee that can give out on him at any time, and he’s too big of a boy to pick up off the ground. It’s also much more cost effective for him to beetle around in an electric golf cart vs in our car. Our car gets good fuel mileage but short trips with stops and gos are hard on vehicles.

The secondary purpose is the fun aspect. Hubs is like a teenager with his first car, and I love watching the joy it brings him. Our park has an annual golf cart Christmas parade, so we’ll definitely enter that.

I took Arnie for one spin. I have no intentions of giving up walking everywhere in our park. When I add this to my morning power walks, I’m usually getting in between 15,000 and 18,000 steps per day and I feel good when I do that.

I’ll cruise around the park with hubs once in a while for an evening outing, as so many of our park residents do, but that’ll be pretty much the extent of me using it.

Retirement is treating us well and we’re very fortunate to be able to enjoy it with little luxuries like Arnie. We never take that for granted.

“To me, retirement means doing what you have fun doing.”
