In 1997 hubs and I visited New York City and the Statue of Liberty.
My feature photo, although not very clear because it’s a photo of a photo, holds many memories.
The photo was taken from the first platform of the Statue of Liberty. In the background, behind hubs’ shoulder stand the the World Trade Center towers.
Little did we know at that time of the complete devastation and unfathomable loss of life that would happen there just four years later.
I clearly recall every moment of September 11, 2001 right from the early morning hours as I was getting ready for work until the end of that horrific day.
“It was as if real life had been canceled for the day.”

A bittersweet memory, I am sure. You look like you are enjoying yourself. 🙂 Thank you for sharing.

It certainly is a bittersweet memory, Betty, given what happened four years afterwards. It was my first trip to NYC and I recall being filled with excitement. We travelled there again several years after 9/11 to take my parents on a trip East. Looking at the site again from the same spot at the Statue of Liberty was a very sombre experience.

It was such a massive, devastating and tragic destruction of human lives, and I often feel that next to the sad loss of life is the unfortunate amount of fake news surrounding it and the 9/11 deniers. It’s so important to keep the truth alive. Thank you for this post.

You’re absolutely correct on all counts, Helene. Sadly, with so many major events, the conspiracy theorists and the nay-sayers find a voice. Keeping the truth alive is a challenge we must all rise to.

I love this. I’ve never been to the Statue of Liberty. What a nice photo. It’s strange that the buildings are no longer there. That was such heartache- that whole ordeal with Sept 11. Never forgotten for sure.

It was definitely a dark time in recent history. It was so hard to fathom … still is.
