This is one of my favourite times of year for morning walks. The perennial flowers are blooming in yards and the newly-added annuals are starting to take hold to offer their own flush of colour.
After I made a quick stop to get a photo of this Bearded Iris, my mind became occupied with trying to remember the names of women I know personally who were named after flowers. Such are the distractions when walking, but sometimes it’s almost like a form of meditation. As I recalled each name, I focused on my memory of the person, and tried to decide if their floral name suited their personalities .
I came up with Rose, Lily, Daisy, Violet, Ivy, Heather, Holly, Jasmine, and Iris.
In every instance, I was able to find a similarity between the person and her floral namesake. Do you know women with floral names? Do their names suit their personalities?
Unfortunately, I shot my feature photo in portrait mode. This made for difficulty in getting optimal sizing for WordPress display. I also spent a fair bit of time in post processing trying to get the petals more defined than they were in the original photo. The original was a bit over-exposed and sometimes that situation can be challenging, especially with whites that need definition.
“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet.”
William Shakespeare
I don’t know too many women with “flower” first names. But my middle name is Rose, as is my mother’s, as is her mother’s. It’s funny the things we think about when walking. I do love irises, and this one is very pretty!

I know several people with Rose as either a first or middle name. Now I know another one 😊. I’m happy that many of my thoughts when walking are for me alone, lol. Thanks for reading and commenting, Betty! Have a great Sunday!
