At noon on day five, we arrived at the Texas state line.
The bright sunshine and the azure skies were reassuring that we “just might” be lucky to make it to the RV parts and repair shop at New Braunfels, TX to purchase the new top vent covers and have them installed before a rain.
At about 2 pm, we stopped for fuel at a Mom and Pop gas station. We usually fuel up at bigger chain places but this one was convenient and had some photographic charm.

We had one more overnight before New Braunfels, so with high hopes (and hubs’ eternal optimism) for no rain, we progressed down highway 281 until daylight was gone and we were ready to park for the night. I hadn’t mentioned earlier that we had been following highway 281 south since we left Jamestown, ND on day one.
Glad you made it to Texas! Hopefully, the rain holds off until you get the vent covers. I googled where New Braunfels was located. How did you ever happen to choose that location to winter? My son and his wife live in Dallas. We have visited Texas a few times (Waco, Amarillo, Dallas – of course). I have always enjoyed it.

New Braunfels is where we found RV parts and great service two years ago, so we knew they’d help us out there. We still had four hours to drive south from there to arrive at our winter destination 😊 One more post tomorrow about the rest of the journey to get here and then you’ll “finally” see where we’re wintering. I guess it’s a bit confusing with the back-tracking I’ve been doing. 😊Thanks for reading and commenting, Betty!
