The Bare-Eyed Pigeon is native to the coasts of Colombia, Venezuela, Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Margarita, and Blanquilla.
This one perched outside our balcony railing in Curaçao just long enough for me to catch a photo. The black around his eyes makes me think he looks like he was in a barroom brawl.
In post processing, I tried resetting the perspective to make the railings straight. I also tried editing the railings out altogether. In the end, my preference was to leave the railings as shot, because they seemed to provide an apt frame.
“Pigeons are among the most maligned urban wildlife despite the fact that human beings brought them to our shores and turned them loose in our cities – not something that they chose.”
Ingrid Newkirk
I laughed at your title! I didn’t even notice the railings until I read what you wrote about them (your efforts to edit them.) My eye was drawn to the pigeon’s eye. It is such a strong feature – and the “point” of the photo, I am guessing. I also like the texture on the pigeon’s neck and the patterns of its feathers. Great capture!

Yes, the eye was certainly the reason for the post title. Thanks for reading, commenting, and your kind compliment on the photo, Betty! Have a great Friday!
