It’s actually a “thing”. I heard it on the radio yesterday, so naturally I Googled it.
Wiki says leaf peeping is an informal term in the United States and Canada for the activity in which people travel to view and photograph the fall foliage in areas where leaves change colors in autumn.
Meriam Webster even has a definition of a leaf peeper: – person who visits wooded areas in autumn to view the changing colors of the foliage
Despite the somewhat creepy undertones of the phrase, I guess, by definition, Im a leaf peeper.
Happy Saturday!
“Is not this a true autumn day? Just the still melancholy that I love—that makes life and nature harmonize.”
George Eliot
I’ve heard this term for years, and it sounds creepy to me, too. Although, I do love fall colors very much. Couldn’t we be “Foliage Followers” or “Leaf Leapers” or “Tree Tourists”? Something that doesn’t sound so creepy?
