The terrace next to the top floor pool at the Dakota Dunes Resort Hotel faces east over the golf course.
I set my alarm for day four of our road trip to be sure that I’d be able to get to the terrace for a couple of sunrise photos.
When I arrived on the terrace, I was at first discouraged by the heavy fog, stretching from right in front of me to the horizon. Usually, I’m excited to see fog because we don’t get that much of it here, and it can help to create some soft, moody photos.
This time, I was afraid that the fog would ruin my vision of getting a photo of the sun rising over the golf course.
I was mesmerized by what happened next. As the sun started to make her appearance, the fog receded bit by bit away from me and towards the horizon, and as the sun continued to rise, the colours on the photo canvas changed. Once again, I was held in awe of the beauty and the wonder of nature.

“ In nature, everything has a job. The job of the fog is to beautify further the existing beauties!

These two pictures are absolutely beautiful! What an inspiring way to start a day! One would almost have to think very positive life-affirming thoughts as this scene unfolds. Sunrises are an awesome way to start the day!

Thank you, Betty! I’m thinking about framing one or both to keep as a memory of that wonderful morning. It’s Thanksgiving Weekend here in Canada. Hubs has volunteered to prepare the meal while I coach from the sidelines. Should be fun, lol. I hope you have a fab day!

Sounds like a great day! Happy Thanksgiving Weekend to you! I would definitely frame those photos! They make me think of the Cat Stevens’ song, “Morning Has Broken.” Enjoy your day!

4 AM !?! That’s pretty early. I planned to take some sunrise shots this summer, but sleep got the best of me, which I always need. I find it easier (and a lot colder) to take them in winter when the lake is frozen over. I love everything about your photo! I’m in awe.
