Last weekend, we visited family and friends in the small Saskatchewan city we called home for 21+ years.
Melfort, SK has a beautiful city park named Spruce Haven.
Over the past couple of years, the park has been upgraded with a labyrinth and a wood spirit area.
The local wood carvers group has researched and learned how to practice their art while preserving the trees.
This is a collage of their creations in the park. Each carving is much larger than the size of a human head. One must search for the carvings throughout the area, which is also adorned with fairy houses carved from tree stumps.
“He who works with his hands is a laborer. He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman. He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist.”
St. Francis of Assissi
Lovely carvings and a beautiful quote.

Love these carvings – and glad the carving does not harm the trees! Love the quote, too. Perhaps you will be posting some fairy houses, too….

Yes, apparently there’s a very rigid process to insure no harm to the trees. I believe I did get a photo or two of the fairy houses. Thanks for reading and commenting, Betty! Enjoy your Saturday evening!

What a wonderfully delightful and alive place! Do you feel these carvings take on the personality of the trees? And are there no female faces? Perhaps you or I could be featured.

Haha! Well I’m certainly old enough to be a model for a wood spirit! As far as I know, these are usually males. I’m going to have to do some research to find out why. I felt that each carving suited its host tree. It truly is a wonderful place. Thanks for reading and commenting, Kristie! Have a great Monday!
