Both of the major North/South highways in Saskatchewan run through the Qu’Appelle Valley. Caused by the retreat of glacial ice (over 14,000 years ago) the valley stretches west to east over most of the width of a southern portion of our province.

Perhaps because of close proximity to the highway in this particular section, the farmers take protection of the land rather seriously. I’m thinking that the extra diagonal of barbed wire is not only to prevent cattle from getting out, but likely also a deterrent for travellers looking to get a good photo.
