There’s nothing quite like a power walk first thing in the morning. It’s both calming and energizing. A minimum of 6K (3.73 miles) is my usual distance and my frequency goal is minimum four and maximum five days per week. During these walks, my pace keeps me in the cardio and peak zones for the better part of an hour.
I try to stop for at least one photo. When I do make a quick photo stop, I immediately pick up my pace for a bit afterwards to make up for the stop. After over two years of consistent power walking, I’ve become fairly adept at judging how to compensate for the photo stops in order to still achieve my fitness goals for the walk.
Although I don’t mind a gentle breeze – calm, cool mornings are my favourite weather conditions for both walking and photography.
“Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside.” ~ Elizabeth von Arnim
I do so enjoy walking. Dan and I try to walk every day. Of course, there are days we miss. My goal is 7500 steps per day, but I do take time for photos and chats along the way. My favorite time to walk is the morning. Walking is a joy in my life, and I am glad it is a joy in your life, too. Love the quote. Have a good day and a great walk tomorrow!

It’s always nice when fellow walkers understand the joy in the most natural form of exercise. I walk every day as well. It’s the power walking that I limit to four or five days per week in order to give my body a chance to recover. On my days off power walking, I always try to do at least one walk at a slower pace. I hope your day is good too, Betty!
