I’ve been consistently choosing the nature habitat trail alongside the river for my morning power walks.

There are many other routes in our city’s ever-expanding trail system, but this one always holds the most evidence of spring.

Yesterday morning, the last of the ice on the river was gone, and this group of ring- billed gulls had gathered for a noisy conference.

When I returned home and checked the photo, I was amused to note that all of the gulls were facing south – except for one rebel.

“Every act of rebellion expresses a nostalgia for innocence and an appeal to the essence of being.”
