I was born and raised in this area. Hubs and I moved away to a small city about five hours north of here and lived in that part of our province for 22 years. Ten years ago, we moved back “home” with the intentions of retiring here, which we’ve done.

I took up power walking in the spring of 2018 and was pretty certain I had walked every trail and almost every street in and around our small prairie city.

Yesterday, I discovered yet another trail system through a 16 acre park in the heart of our city. I had previously thought this was just a sporting area because it’s home to ball diamonds, tennis courts, soccer pitches, and a football field. I had never bothered to check it out for walking trails. Imagine my surprise when I found, not only a trail system there, but at the centre of it, this rock garden with three massive rock pillars as the focal point.

The pillars are easily more than 8 feet tall, but because they’re in the centre of the park, they can’t be seen from the street. I’ve been trying to research where the monolith-like grouping came from and how many years it’s been there, but so far, have come up empty-handed.
