On many of my walks that take me along the river, I’ve noticed what looks like a single tire track running along the entirety of whatever part of the river I’m at.
Often, it’s accompanied by various other animal, human, and sled tracks all around it so it doesn’t stand out as much as it did on this day when it was the first track on the snow-covered river.
On this February day, both the shadows and the solitary track on the river were enhanced by the bright mid-morning sun shining on the cover of freshly fallen snow.
I’ve often wondered if the track is really a tire track at all, or some artifact on the surface, caused by the flow of the river far beneath the ice. Now, I’m wondering if someone has been riding a wide-tired bicycle on the river, which really makes no sense at all.
