“In 1832 the Hampelmann was created by Carl Malss as a figure for the burlesque at Frankfurt. Later the jumping jack toy became known as Hampelmann in German-speaking countries. They were manufactured in the Erzgebirge mountain range in Germany”.
I remember my Grandpa making large ones from wood and giving them to his grown children as a memory of when there was one hanging in their childhood home. I’m pretty sure I heard them referred to as Humpelmutz (sp?) but that may have just been how I interpreted what was said.
Many years ago, I found these little guys in a Christmas boutique and I knew I had to have them. I’ve displayed them at Christmas every year since we bought them and always smile with fond memories of my Grandpa whenever I look at them. ❤️
“There are a few moments in your life when you are truly and completely happy, and you remember to give thanks. Even as it happens you are nostalgic for the moment, you are tucking it away in your scrapbook.”
