One of the many great things about camping on our part of the prairies is the abundance of wild Saskatoon Berries in and around the campsites.
Also known as Western Juneberries, they’re a delicious wild treat to add to morning cereal or to just eat freshly picked.
These berries are also used in much-coveted pies. I’m sure the “pie envy” is because of all of the work involved in harvesting and cleaning enough berries to make a batch of Saskatoon pies.
“Better than any argument is to rise at dawn and pick dew-wet red berries in a cup.” ~ Wendell Berry
