In our travels over the years, we’ve visited mountains, oceans, forests, canyons, deserts, and every other type of landscape imaginable. Each is beautiful in its own right.

On my morning walks around the countryside here, I find myself thinking about all of our travels and comparing those many landscapes to my home surroundings. As I take in the vastness of the wide open spaces, I know that I’ll always be a prairie girl at heart.

The prairie is one of those plainly visible things that you can’t photograph. No camera lens can take in a big enough piece of it. The prairie landscape embraces the whole of the sky. Any undistorted image is too flat to represent the impression of immersion that is central to being on the prairie. The experience is a kind of baptism. ~ Paul Gruchow
