During a birding tour at Santa Ana Wildlife Refuge in Alamo, TX. we spied this Harris’s Hawk keeping a watchful eye over prospective prey.
We were told by our guide that the Harris’s Hawk is the only raptor that hunts in cooperative teams like wolves. One (like the guy in my featured image), is the prey spotter and if he takes off to pursue prey, the other team-mates follow, each with their own job in the hunt.
“I am the hawk and there’s blood in my feathers, but time is still turning they soon will be dry. And all those who see me and all who believe in me, share in the freedom I feel when I fly.” ~ John Denver
