Great Tailed Grackles – Native to west central and southern USA, were plentiful in South Texas. This guy enjoyed entertaining us from a palm tree outside our balcony at South Padre Island, TX.
We heard at least 3 distinctive calls from these birds. The most common call was a long shrill single whistle that ascended from a lower note to a higher note. Another was a series of high-pitched chirps. The most interesting sound (to us at least) was when the bird would puff up and emit a deep-toned rattle.
Wishing all of you a happy and safe weekend!
